As I don’t remember seeing a phenomenon like that before, I checked for it:
In rare occasions, light reflected by the moon breaks in ice crystals in high altitude and create a halo around the moon. It seems to be a rare phenomenon and is often only visible in a photo but not by the bare eye. In this case… without seeing it, I would not have taken a picture that evening!
